Youths need solid information on the adult world that they are preparing to enter. Today’s teenagers have a chance to find out firsthand about a variety of careers of Special interest – Law Enforcement is one. The Bolingbrook Police Department’s Law Enforcement Explorer Program has been carefully designed to meet the needs of young men and women, ages 14 through 21, who are interested in Law Enforcement. The program provides young adults with opportunities to assist law enforcement personnel in their work. However, Explorers are not allowed to substitute for law enforcement personnel, and they are forbidden from representing themselves as police officers.
Purpose
- To explore all phases of law enforcement, giving the Explorers an insight into the many fields of law enforcement and information to help them qualify for a career in this field
- To help young adults find their own lifestyles through experiences that develop strong character, give citizenship training and improve personal and mental Fitness
- To instill within the Explorers a genuine wish to develop the habits, attitudes and practices of contributing members of society
Each member of the Law Enforcement Explorer Post is expected to have team spirit – be prepared by study, training, and discipline to meet the responsibilities of their post. Confidence, essential for accomplishment, comes from successful experience gained through the diligent performance of duty. Courtesy, patience, commitment and tact are characteristics of the experienced, competent Law Enforcement Explorer. To help guide post members live these ideals, Explorers subscribe to a code of ethics.
